Hi ! Lion …el
Hope you have received my letter from my holiday in Bordeaux sent to your mother.
Thanks a lot for your letters very interesting for my English. I am continuilling in my efforts for writing in English… Please, answer before the 28/09/95, because after that I leave my school and this address, for work in a shop. When, I finish school, I will go to Brighton to work in a supermarket.
My life in London is very different to my life in France, for example: I drink tea with milk. Here in England. I must depend on myself. I finish in December but I can prolong my stay. I like the cities like Paris and London. It’s what I like best about this place. I live with a family who are very nice and have two beautifuls small girls. My English has improved and I’m very happy.
I always think of a sentence said by Tom Hanks in the film “Forrest Gump”
“LIFE IS LIKE A BOX OF CHOCOLATES: YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GONNA GET”
Take care and write very soon!

Hi Lionel,
I had one month for to study the English at Oxford College in Oxford Street. I have a certificate of progress level of English on leaving: elementary. I begin level 1: general English, I finish level 2: Elementary.
To day, I don’t work in Brihgton but in London for to be more precise, in Wimbledon in a Charity Shop, the Cancer research of cancer.
I’m paid by the organisation londoner. I get enough money for my food, my transport and my accomodation.
Now, I live at Clapham Junction. It’s my third address for two months and the must calm because it is more away from the town- centre. I have begun enjoy to London, before, I didn’t feel at home. I must say, I have difficulty understanding because I lack the vocabulary but I have less of a problem speaking. It’s best for me writing in English because I learn new words. I begin to make a professional plan for my return. I intend going to Paris and Bordeaux, to find a job. Two real friends propose to put me up to do active research. I am going to do that because in life you need to accept the aid of others.
Especially me, who is not going to spend my life in Valenciennes. To day, a customer said that she found a man and she explained. The details to my colleagues- smiling and attentive, I didn’t understand the conversation but the customers looked very shocked at what she asked. Then, she had to take off her dark glasses for me look and said to me that I have good taste. I answered that I don’t understand because I’m french. After, she asked me for my address and telephone number, I asked why? So she asked me my age? I answed twenty- two and she said no good, too young for me and left the shop. My colleagues howled with laughter and after the woman charge said to me with difficulty that the customer wants to find a man for a sado relation- ship. She wants to tie up this partner with the tie to dominate. It’s a very nice place but strange people, everywhere.
Since my arrival, I went to a disco, one lonelytime; I don’t find the need to go there again. I think about France, because lots people to meet up with.I love Madonna as much as ever and my collection of CD and video increase and I have the films in English now.
Hope you’re well and happy in Arras.
Take care and write very soon! Best- wishes “Your André”

My dear Stéphane,
Thanks a lot for you lovely (and unexpected) letter in English. How are you? Fine, I hope.
Now, I have a new look, short hair and goatee beard. My clothes are similar to those worn in the 70’s.
I’ve had two offers of work in hotels, One in London and the other in Glasgow. I have not decided which offer to accept yet. It will look good on my C.V. that I have lived and worked in London.
Last Saturday, I went for a drink with a woman customer…sado! She has problems with her American boy friend, she only wants him for sex. The boy friend says he has lots of money but when he took the woman to a restaurant she had to pay the bill. I’ve told the woman to find a new man.
Then I went to a disco in Vauxhall which was full of black people and the music was all rap and soul. I met a group of Jamaicans and went to a party with. Them, which was not a good idea as they were smoking drugs and playing Bob Marley records in a black room, not for me! I think Karim would have really enjoyed himself.
On Monday night, I went to a pub in Charring Cross and saw a friend that I’d met last April in London. He lives with a friend that speaks Belgian and Dutch. I had forgotten how funny the Belgian accent is!
I (Madonna) has just released a new record called “you’ll see”.
Louisette has not written to me (hm! I’m sad). I have a big problem! On the week- end of the 25/11/95 both JB and the Parisian will arrive in London… More later… Take care and write very soon!
Best wishes Your “Madonna” André
